German electrolysis specialist Sunfire will supply two 100 MW plants for the production of green hydrogen to Spain. One of the plants will be delivered to an industrial complex in Cartagena, led by Repsol, Spain's largest hydrogen producer, and Enagás. The other plant will be installed at the Petronor refinery in Muskiz (Bilbao).

Spain offers strong conditions for green hydrogen, according to Nils Aldag, CEO of Sunfire. This potential was recognized early on, and now Spain's leading role in green hydrogen will be strengthened, Aldag emphasizes.

The two projects will each be equipped with ten modules of pressurized alkaline technology. Each of these modules has a capacity of 10 MW and can be integrated into existing refinery processes. The modules will become part of a regional hydrogen infrastructure and, after commissioning in 2029, will produce up to 15,000 tons of hydrogen annually from renewable electricity. This system will be used primarily for the production of fuels with a significantly reduced CO₂ footprint at Repsol's industrial complexes.

Sunfire has already delivered a 10 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer to Basque Hydrogen, which is currently being installed in the Port of Bilbao. The follow-up order for 200 MW underscores the reliability, scalability, and implementation expertise of Sunfire and its technology. In addition to the partnership with Repsol, Sunfire has other strong industrial references, including a 100 MW order from RWE in Lingen, Germany.
