The Mein Schiff Relax, the first ship of the new InTUItion class, is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. Now, just a few months before the new ship's commissioning, another trial run with liquefied natural gas (LNG), known as the LNG sea trial, has been successfully completed.
While the first sea trial in October focused on the ship's performance and maneuverability, this trial aimed to test the LNG propulsion system. LNG was bunkered, and the fuel system, from the tank to the engine, underwent thorough testing to ensure that the LNG propulsion meets the operational specifications. The result: the Mein Schiff Relax will successfully operate on liquefied natural gas.
“With the Mein Schiff Relax, we are not only introducing a new ship class but also breaking new ground in sustainability. The InTUItion class vessels are equipped with dual-fuel engines, capable of running on marine diesel as well as LNG—including low-emission and climate-friendly bio- and e-LNG. This provides maximum flexibility and marks an important step towards climate-neutral cruising,” said Georgios Vagiannis, Director of Newbuild at TUI Cruises.
