Hydrogen producer Lhyfe and industrial gases group Messer have agreed on a comprehensive commercial, industrial, and financial partnership. At the heart of the collaboration is a ten-year supply contract for green hydrogen and Messer's acquisition of a 30 percent stake in four Lhyfe hydrogen production sites in France and Germany. With this agreement, Messer will not only become a long-term customer but also an industrial partner and investor in the facilities.

The supply contract covers three production sites in France and one in Germany. Starting in 2026, Messer commits to purchasing a minimum quantity of green hydrogen, which is expected to gradually increase to several hundred tons per year. Furthermore, the company aims to source approximately half of the production from the three French sites. Messer will integrate the hydrogen produced there, some of which is RFNBO-certified, into its industrial gases portfolio, thereby supporting the decarbonization efforts of existing and new industrial customers. At the same time, the industrial gases specialist will contribute its expertise in safety, logistics, operations, and sales to the further development of the plants.

The agreement covers three production sites in France and one in Germany. Peter Mohnen, CEO of Messer SE & Co. KGaA, described the agreement as an important milestone for both companies and a long-term commitment to the hydrogen economy. The secured access to renewable hydrogen strengthens their ability to support customers in their decarbonization efforts. Furthermore, the geographically distributed production sites enable more efficient supply chains, shorter transport routes, and lower transport-related emissions.
