The DAH Group has taken over the Ottersberg biogas plant in Lower Saxony, which was recently named Biogas Plant of the Year 2024 by the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e.V.). The state-of-the-art facility, designed and constructed by BENAS Biogasanlage GmbH, has a total installed electrical capacity of 11.35 MW. In addition, it supplies raw biogas to a biomethane upgrading plant with a capacity of approximately 55 million kWh. Using renewable raw materials and agricultural residues, the plant produces 31 million kWh of electricity annually. A unique feature of the facility is its innovative paper and molded fiber production, integrated for processing fermentation residues. Furthermore, a stripping plant has been installed to remove ammonia from fermentation residues using the heat generated by the plant.
"We plan to expand our biomethane production. Our goal is to acquire plants that fit well into our operational portfolio, meaning they can be used for biomethane injection. At the Ottersberg plant, 1,200 m³/h of biogas is already being processed to natural gas quality. We aim to increase this capacity further and equip the plant with CO2 liquefaction technology," said Christian Heck, Co-CEO of the DAH Group.
Christoph Heitmann and Jürgen Heitmann, Managing Directors of BENAS Biogasanlage GmbH, stated: "It is no coincidence that this biogas plant was recently named Plant of the Year 2024. We are delighted to have found the best possible buyer for our facility in the DAH Group, a buyer that not only provides long-term prospects for our employees but also values the numerous innovations embedded in our plant."
Stefan Jost, Co-CEO of the DAH Group, added: "We are deeply grateful to the Heitmann family for their trust during the negotiations and look forward to working with a team of highly skilled employees. With this acquisition, we are taking another step in implementing our announced growth strategy to become one of Germany's leading biomethane platforms."
